Hot mulled wine to spice up a winter's night. Delicious.
1 bottle of red wine (I use shiraz)
A slug of liquer eg. triple sec, nice and citrusy (optional - I just used this as there was some leftover from our frozen margarita phase last summer)
A few orange slices
6 star anise pods
2 cinnamon sticks
2 Tbsp sugar
Heat in a saucepan to a low simmer then serve hot.
You can also add a handful of raisins and slivered almonds, they soak up the wine and you can eat them with a spoon when your cup is empty.
Note: This is also a great way to use a wine that isn't quite as nice as you expected.
